TEAM STAFF PICKSEvery few months we Kids' Team members take a look around. We ask ourselves, "Selves, why are we here? What's keeping us in the kids' section when high adventure of the Travel Room calls? Or when we hear all the hilarity bubbling out of Humor? Or when the answers to the meaning of life are just upstairs in Philosophy?" Then, we spy the books we read as children. The books that made us laugh, and cry, and grow into the people we are. We also remember great new books we've read recently the classics of the future! We pick a few of these incredible books old favorites like The Surprise Doll, and new gems like Gilda Joyce: The Ladies of the Lake tell you why we love them, and hope that they keep you coming back, too. Peruse the new crop of Kids' Team Staff Picks here. HAPPY
FATHER'S DAYAlexis's dad used to put suction-cup horns on his head and chase her around the house. He also taught her how to play guitar. Karen's dad used to sneak into her bedroom at 6 a.m. and make her stuffed animals nudge her until she woke up. He also taught her how to garden. Don't forget Father's Day is June 18. Dad! Dad! He's our guy! Here's a list of books to buy! ADOPT
A SHELTER CATThere's a lot going on in the month of June. Kids get out of school, summer clothes get released from moth-balled boxes, and sprinklers get turned up high. Amid the glee of summer vacation comes Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, a time in which families across the country are encouraged to remember the thousands of homeless, lovable felines residing in our local animal shelters. If you already have a cat, you know the joy that a family cat can bring. If you don't, ponder the wonders of the cat kingdom with some of our favorite kitty books, then consider visiting the website of your local Humane Society. NEW

Pendragon Book 7: Quillan Games, follows Bobby Pendragon to a land where the people are captive players in a game that determines whether they live or die. And in Among the Free, Margaret Peterson Haddix's conclusion to the breathtaking Shadow Children series, the government has been overthrown; what will happen now that everyone is free? EMILY'S
FAVORITE GRAPHIC NOVELSChildren's graphic novels have become stupendously popular, and they've been making us feel a bit... old, and out of our element. So, we decided to educate ourselves. We went to an expert: a real, live kid who reads and loves graphic novels. Emily is thirteen years old and spends a lot of time perusing our graphic novels section in the Rose Room at Powell's City of Books. She knows her stuff and was graciously willing to enlighten us. Many of our more technical questions were answered, and we heard about the rather intriguing plots of several series. Read the full interview here. KIDS' BESTSELLERS
